Welcome to www.carolynshymns.com, a refreshing oasis of efficient information transfer in a vast world-wide wasteland of overdesigned graphic noise.
Carolyn's web site is written and maintained by David L. Winfrey (mail: dee ell double-u at patriot dot net), from content provided by Carolyn and Bruce, with CSS and HTML generated from XML and Perl source files by a Perl template system.
The Perl code reads hymn, tune, and lectionary data from the XML data files, then combines that data with Perl page source files to produce standards-compliant CSS and HTML output.
You can see all of the content on this site without Java, Javascript, Flash, ActiveX, cookies, or overpriced and strategically-backward-incompatible word-processing programs, because Web sites that require these things are defective.
You can even see the content with graphics turned off; you'll miss the page banner and a few photographs, but everything else is text.
(Unfortunately, some of the links go to sites that are more glitter-happy, and you'll need some of those annoyances there. Sorry, that's out of my control.)
Some of the tools used in the construction and maintenance of this site are XEmacs, Perl, PHP, HTML Tidy, Firefox, NcFTP, GNU Image Manipulation Program, W3C HTML validator, and W3C CSS validator.
